What is a blog tour and how can it work for you?

You’ve written and published your first book, well done! Now the hard work has just begun. You want people to start buying it, don’t you? Now you need to generate awareness and get people interested in your book. One of the best ways to promote your book today is online. One of the best and cheapest methods to do that is to go on a book blog tour.

A book blog tour is similar to a traditional book tour, except instead of going to bookstores and doing signings, you go to different blogs and are hosted by bloggers. You don’t need to travel anywhere or say anything in front of a live audience. The purpose of a blog tour is to get your book out to a wide audience that would be interested in the book once it’s published.

You can even organise a blog tour yourself or hire a blog tour company to do it for you. This can be a great solution for both traditional and self-published authors. The key is to find blogs in your book’s genre and asked the bloggers if they would be interested in taking part in your tour. Every tour should have at least 5 to 10 blogs or more involved to generate interest in your book. If you don’t have the time to organise a tour yourself, there are plenty of inexpensive tour companies out there who can do all the work for you by finding and contacting different bloggers on your behalf.

Each “stop” on the tour, or each blog, might take a different approach to the type of content they are willing to post that serves as a promotion for your book. The content could be an author interview, a guest or promotional post written by the author, a character interview for fiction or a review of your book.

For any blog tour, you need a media kit comprising of your book cover and blurb, links to where your book can be purchased, links to your website and social media accounts and information about the author. Giving away free copies or downloads of your book is also quite common as well.

Blog tours are the perfect way for generating buzz about your book when it is first released and are great for new authors to get the word out about it. Not only that they are a great way of gaining new readers and building your platform as an author.
